I saved a clipping of that illustration, and thereafter, I began to see his work popping up everywhere, from the <em>New Yorker<\/em> to <em>National Geographic<\/em> and beyond. When he began &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/chrisbaer.net\/mp\/2012\/12\/03\/richards-poor-almanac-now-online\/\">Richard&#8217;s Poor Almanac<\/a>&#8221; for the <em>Post<\/em> and then the syndicated &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/chrisbaer.net\/mp\/tag\/cul-de-sac\/\">Cul de Sac<\/a>,&#8221; well, it was like a holiday every time I opened the paper.<\/p>\n<p>You could do worse than spend twenty minutes watching <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/111690998\">a short documentary on his life and work<\/a>, and collections of his illustrations and cartoons are available via <a href=\"https:\/\/richardspooralmanac.blogspot.com\">his site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My condolences to his family and friends.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Washington Post&#8216;s Comic Riffs blog is reporting the passing of Richard Thompson, illustrator and cartoonist, from complications of Parkinson&#8217;s Disease.
